Christophe de Callatay - Oil paintings
I think and I paint. Neither figurative nor abstract, my compositions are inspired by nature and heavily influenced by all that I read, art history and philosophy.
My aim to become an intelligent 'image-maker'.
As a self-taught artist, I do not wish to belong to any painting school. But I am developing since my childhood my own artistic style and populating my own universe with recurring themes and visuals.
Above all, I enjoy exploring the 'power of colours', how they interact, contrast and mix. In that sense, every painting tells the silent story of a fight . As much as possible, every canvas is representing a carefully-structured battle of colours, lines and shapes where all elements are placed, orchestrated and converge to produce a visual and emotional impact.
When I paint, I apply colour-saturated brushstrokes onto the canvas and aim to make colours sing with as much intensity as I can.
